Board certified by the American Board of Radiology Dr. Pirkowski received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, Magna Cum Laude. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed his residency in radiation oncology at the Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.. Dr Pirkowski pursued additional specialty training in intraoperative radiation oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and in hyperthermia at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Missouri.After training, Dr. Pirkowski served at Georgetown as the clinical director of the intraoperative radiation oncology program. Dr Pirkowski invented a special diaphragmatic applicator for treatment of ovarian cancer while at Georgetown Medical Center. He relocated to central Florida in 1991. In 1992, Dr. Pirkowski participated in specialized training in prostate brachytherapy at the Northwest Tumor Institute in Seattle, Washington. In 2006, Dr Pirkowski brought IGRT to Volusia and Flagler County's. He is the most experienced prostate radiation oncologist in the area, having treated over 700 patients with IGRT. Dr. Pirkowski is a past-president of the West Volusia section of the American Cancer Society. He is board certified in radiation oncology. |
